The first American president to publicly endorse cryptocurrencies is Donald Trump, marking a significant shift from his previous anti-crypto position. Trump will hold cryptocurrencies while in office, which is another first in history. His current portfolio is worth $5.43 million, and a sizable percentage of it is invested in Ethereum (ETH).<\/p>\n

According to Arkham Intelligence, Trump’s assets as of November 25 include $1.65 million in wrapped ether (WETH) and $1.7 million in ether. He also has 579,289.81 TRUMP tokens, which are political finance (polities) meme coins that were airdropped to him and are worth approximately $1 million at today’s exchange rates.<\/p>\n

Additionally, Trump has 210.345 billion TROG tokens, which are worth $403,860 at the moment. Even though his cryptocurrency holdings are still worth a lot, in June they were valued at over $14 million. According to Kevin Helms, a writer for Bitcoin.com News, Trump’s TRUMP tokens alone were worth $9.89 million at that time.<\/p>\n

Earlier in the year, when ETH was trading at $3,813 on June 1 as opposed to its current price of $3,475 on November 25, his ETH holdings were likewise worth more. Trump’s portfolio doubled in less than a week during the summer. The TROG tokens, which were worth $18.6 million at the time, were the main factor that drove it to $31.23 million by June 5.<\/p>\n

There may be legal or tax-related reasons why Trump hasn’t sold the TRUMP or TROG tokens that were airdropped. Tokens that are airdropped come with special complications, including unknown ownership, reporting obligations, and possible liabilities. Capital gains taxes or complex disclosures under campaign finance regulations may be triggered by the sale of these assets.<\/p>\n

Trump was running for office at the time, ahead of his election triumph in 2024. Since selling tokens with political themes, like TRUMP, could attract attention or criticism, his team may also be considering the optics of the move. Holding these tokens could be a strategic way to deal with these uncertainties for the time being while evaluating future compliant tactics.<\/p>\n
