Global payments giant Mastercard has launched a new service designed to simplify and secure peer-to-peer cryptocurrency transactions in various European and Latin American nations.<\/p>\n

The “Crypto Credential” service offers users a Mastercard alias\u2014a straightforward username\u2014allowing them to send and receive Bitcoin and other cryptocurrencies through exchanges like Bit2Me<\/a><\/strong>, Lirium, and Mercado Bitcoin, available in countries such as Brazil, Argentina, and France.<\/p>\n

Typically, cryptocurrency transactions require the use of wallet addresses\u2014complex and lengthy strings of letters and numbers. Errors in these addresses can result in a permanent loss of funds. Mastercard\u2019s service aims to mitigate this risk.<\/p>\n

“If the receiving wallet does not support the specific asset or blockchain, the sender is alerted, and the transaction is stopped, preventing any potential loss of funds,” Mastercard explained.<\/p>\n

Additionally, scammers frequently use lookalike addresses to trick users into sending digital assets, as many services display only a truncated portion of the address. Mastercard’s implementation of simple aliases significantly mitigates this risk.<\/p>\n

Crypto Credential’s Achievements and Prospects<\/span><\/p>\n

“As blockchain and digital asset interest continues to grow in Latin America and globally, ensuring secure and verifiable interactions across public blockchain networks is essential,” stated Walter Pimenta, Mastercard\u2019s executive vice president of product and engineering for Latin America and the Caribbean.
\nMastercard’s new service is now available to customers in Argentina, Brazil, Chile, France, Guatemala, Mexico, Panama, Paraguay, Peru, Portugal, Spain, Switzerland, and Uruguay.<\/p>\n

“As the pilot advances, we plan to expand into additional European countries,” a company spokesperson told Decrypt.
\nFurthermore, Mastercard indicated that the Crypto Credential service could soon extend to NFTs.<\/p>\n

“The peer-to-peer transaction feature is just the start for Mastercard Crypto Credential,” the company remarked. “Potential future applications may encompass NFTs, ticketing, and other payment solutions, depending on market and regulatory requirements.”<\/p>\n
