As the week ended, XAU\/USD<\/a> recorded a 1% weekly dip while remaining positioned above the intersection of the 20 and 200-day SMAs. Concurrently, US yields are on track to conclude the week with a 2% weekly surge. All eyes now turn to the upcoming week, with a particular focus on key events such as the US CPI and retail sales reports.<\/p>\n

As the week drew to a close, XAU\/USD exhibited slight declines, hovering around the $1,918 mark. The week concluded with significant losses, with Silver down by 5% and Gold down by nearly 1%. These losses were driven by rising US yields, fueled by growing expectations of Federal Reserve tightening.<\/p>\n

This phenomenon highlights the relationship between precious metals and their perceived opportunity cost relative to non-yielding assets. US Treasury yields continued their upward momentum throughout the week’s close. The 2-year yields reached 4.99%, while the 5- and 10-year rates settled at 4.40% and 4.26%, respectively. Although all three experienced modest gains during the session, these increases limited Gold’s upward movement for the day.<\/p>\n

Looking ahead to the next week, investors eagerly anticipate the release of the Consumer Price Index (CPI) and retail sales data for August in the US. These figures will play a crucial role in shaping expectations regarding future Federal Reserve (Fed) decisions. Currently, the market anticipates a 25 basis point (bps) rate hike sometime later this year, with uncertainty regarding whether it will occur in November or December. The forthcoming US economic data will provide valuable insights for investors as they refine their expectations.<\/p>\n

The Technical Analysis of Gold (XAU\/USD)<\/h2>\n

Following its peak at $1,950 on September 1, the XAU\/USD pair initiated a retracement towards lower levels. Initially, it engaged in a back-and-forth struggle between bullish and bearish forces. However, the bearish sentiment gained momentum on September 5, and between Wednesday and Thursday, the market established support around the 200-day simple Moving Average (SMA). As the week concluded, Gold closed at the same level as the 200-day SMA, settling at $1,920.<\/p>\n

According to the Bollinger Bands indicator<\/a>, this price level appears to be an equilibrium point. However, the Relative Strength Index (RSI) indicates a reading of 46.41, slightly below the RSI’s equilibrium level. This minor difference may have limited significance, as there is a high likelihood that the market could exhibit upward movement as trading resumes in the upcoming week.<\/p>\n
