The artificial intelligence boom has become one of the biggest forces driving global financial markets, but a growing question is emerging for crypto investors: what happens to digital assets if the AI trade suddenly reverses?<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Real Vision founder Raoul Pal recently addressed the issue in an interview with Cointelegraph, arguing that investors need to pay close attention to the relationship between AI, global liquidity and crypto. His broader thesis is that the same liquidity conditions that support risk assets can eventually rotate between different areas of the market.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Why AI Matters to Crypto<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

The connection between AI and crypto is not necessarily <\/a>about artificial intelligence companies buying cryptocurrencies. Instead, it is largely about capital allocation.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The AI boom has attracted enormous amounts of investment into semiconductor companies, data centers, cloud infrastructure and other technology assets. If investors continue to see AI as the strongest growth opportunity, capital can remain concentrated in those markets rather than flowing into cryptocurrencies.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Pal has previously argued that parts of the AI trade had become stretched while major crypto networks such as Ethereum, Solana and Sui had lagged. He described this as a potential rotation opportunity if market leadership eventually moves away from AI-related assets.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

What Happens If the AI Boom Weakens?<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

The more important question is whether an AI slowdown would simply cause a rotation or trigger a broader risk-off event.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

A disorderly reversal could initially hurt crypto rather than help it. If investors begin selling AI-related equities because of weaker earnings expectations, falling capital expenditure or tighter financial conditions, they could simultaneously reduce exposure to other risk assets, including Bitcoin and altcoins.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

This is where liquidity becomes important.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Pal has repeatedly argued that global liquidity is one of the most important variables for crypto. In his recent commentary, he has pointed to the dollar and excess liquidity as signals investors should monitor when assessing Bitcoin’s next major move.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Bitcoin Could Face Two Different Outcomes<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Bitcoin’s reaction to an AI slowdown could therefore depend heavily on what happens to liquidity.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

If an AI correction causes investors to move away from growth assets and liquidity contracts, Bitcoin could initially experience additional selling pressure alongside other risk assets.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

However, if an AI-driven correction eventually leads to lower interest rates, a weaker dollar or renewed liquidity creation, the longer-term outcome could be different. Capital could eventually rotate toward assets that have lagged the AI trade.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

That distinction is crucial because an AI correction and a liquidity contraction are not necessarily the same event.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Ethereum, Solana and Sui Enter the Debate<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Pal’s outlook extends beyond Bitcoin. In the recent Cointelegraph interview, he discussed Ethereum, Solana, Sui, Zcash and Hyperliquid, with particular attention to blockchain infrastructure and the potential role of crypto networks in an increasingly automated economy.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

He has also previously argued that Ethereum remains the leading smart-contract network while viewing Solana and Sui as important competitors. His Sui thesis is particularly connected to the potential growth of AI agents and machine-to-machine economic activity.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

For investors, however, the fundamental question remains whether these networks can generate enough real economic activity to offset periods of weaker global liquidity.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Signal Investors Should Watch<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

The AI boom therefore creates a complicated setup for crypto.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

An AI correction could initially become a headwind if investors broadly reduce risk. But if the correction eventually changes interest-rate expectations, currency conditions and global liquidity, crypto could become part of a subsequent capital rotation.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

This makes the relationship between AI and crypto less straightforward than simply assuming that money leaving technology stocks will automatically enter Bitcoin.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

For crypto investors, the more important signals may be the U.S. dollar, global liquidity, interest rates, AI capital spending and Bitcoin’s reaction to changes in those conditions.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The AI trade may eventually cool, but the impact on crypto will depend largely on what replaces it\u2014and whether the next flow of capital moves toward or away from risk assets.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
