According to Elon Musk, X (Twitter) will soon introduce a new function that will enable users to call other users on X without providing a phone number.
Twitter’s owner, Elon Musk, has once again teased a new feature that will soon be available on the social media network. In a recent tweet, he offered a suggestion that the platform might soon include video and voice calls. Due to the distinctive collection of qualities Musk mentioned, the announcement has received considerable attention.
Elon Musk Will Launch Video and Audio Calls on X
Musk announced in a tweet that the future feature will allow video and audio interactions on X, accommodating users on iOS, Android, Mac, and PC platforms. Notably, this capability will not require the use of a phone number, which is consistent with X’s function as a reliable global address book. Users were left wondering when the feature would be accessible after Musk’s post, to which the tech mogul only added the phrase “coming.”
Though this tweet from Musk may be the first clear affirmation, audio and video calls on the X platform have been mentioned before. Musk’s designer, named Andrew Conway released screenshots of the functionality in action in July, which led to increased user interest.
Musk’s disclosure comes shortly after X CEO Linda Yaccarino revealed during a CNBC interview that the platform was getting ready to roll out video calling features. This change fits in with X’s ongoing efforts to strategically expand, which have gained traction since the company changed its name from Twitter.
Twitter’s Transformation into “Everything App”
X has advanced significantly in domains besides communication. Notably, X has received a currency transmitter license from Rhode Island officials. This regulatory approval is a significant step toward the company’s goal of participating in the financial services sector. The action is in line with Musk’s plan to make X an “everything app” that can accept both cryptocurrency and fiat payments.
